Hockley Valley Cabin Addition

The owners came to us with a desire for additional space at their log cabin retreat perched on the edge of the Niagara Escarpment. This was needed to accommodate large family gatherings with an increasing number of grandchildren. A complete ground floor renovation included a grand room addition to the west for living and dining. The original living room was converted to a country kitchen with space for eating at the large island beside the existing fireplace. A new master suite was created in the old kitchen freeing up bedroom space on the second floor for guests. The addition was completed in 2012 by a local Mennonite construction company using logs sourced to match the existing cabin. The result was a juxtaposition of contemporary interior elements such as a heated polished concrete floor and parged fireplace walls with traditional log construction.
