Parkdale House Addition, Toronto

This rear yard addition presented an interesting design challenge. The owners wanted to maintain the existing ground floor apartment for rental income while creating a link between their home in the upper portion of the house and utility space in the basement. New entrances to both apartments were created as part of the addition with a stair connection to the second floor for the owners. The existing second floor kitchen was expanded into the addition with a walk-out deck overlooking the back yard. Contemporary materials were used for the exterior cladding including coreten steel panels and cement board.
